Los Angeles Zoo

For an educational and entertaining day out during a visit to one of Los Angeles hostels, travelers should head to the city’s zoo.

Situated in Griffith Park, within easy reach Los angeles Hostels , the zoo is home to 1,200 animals from across the globe and is famed for its successful California Condor breeding programme.

With the zoo open everyday apart from Christmas Day, there’s no excuse to miss the array of natural wonders on show.

From American Alligators through to Zebra’s the zoo has a massive collection of animals.

Different species of birds, mammals, reptiles, invertebrates and amphibians all call the zoo home. Visitors can get up close and personal to the animals in their designated habitats.

One of the highlights is the Campo Gorilla Reserve which is home to six of the massive primates. The exhibition has been closed for the past four years to undergo a redevelopment project, but is now fully reopened.

Spider City houses the zoo’s collection of invertebrates and the Winnick Family Children’s Zoo is a great spot for children to learn more about animals and conservation.

Botanical Gardens

It’s not just the animals that draw crowds away from Los Angeles hostels and to the zoo, it’s also the picturesque botanical gardens.

With its commitment to conservation, the zoo is keen to highlight the importance of habitat preservation and the link between certain types of plants and animals.

Hundreds of rare trees and flowers are dotted around the zoo and thanks to the climate of LA, the zoo is able to use the plants it nurtures for food for animals.

This means that eucalyptus trees, mulberry bushes and acacia plants serve not only an aesthetic purpose for guests, but daily food staples for its residents.

Some of the green highlights to look out for are the selection of Californian Wildflowers and the zoo’s impressive collection of ficus plants – including the Indian laurel fig which stands outside the Winnick Family Children’s Zoo.
